Project Description

Members of the Adventist Church held a day of voluntary blood donation at the Salvadoran Red Cross Blood Center (CRS).

Each year the members of the Adventist Church join the humanitarian work of CRS and thus contribute to the institution to maintain the reserves of the precious liquid.

According to Carlos López, a spokesman for the institution, this “seeks to strengthen the reserve of the Blood Center as the holidays come and the demand for blood is greater”.

To donate blood you need to be between 18 and 65 years of age, with a minimum weight of 110 pounds. In addition, in each donation “people undergo a medical checkup to have safe blood,” said the spokesperson.

With each donation three lives are saved with the components of the blood. The units of blood will serve to assist people who suffer traffic accidents and other emergencies that need to undergo complex surgeries.

Ana Mercedes Aguillón was one of the volunteers, who donated for the first time and said: “It is very easy and I have not been long, maybe 15 minutes in the process (donation)”

The Salvadoran Red Cross prepares its blood pool to deal with emergencies in the next vacation period where more than 2,500 volunteers from the country’s 64 branches will be activated to cover the places most frequented by Salvadorans.
