Since January 2025, Ecuador has been hit by two major crises. Heavy rains triggered severe flooding and landslides, affecting more than 200,000 people across some of the country’s most at risk provinces. These conditions also led to a major oil spill, contaminating water sources and pushing the total number of people impacted to over half a million. As a result, thousands are now without clean drinking water, and cases of respiratory problems, skin infections, and stomach ailments are increasing. The humanitarian needs are immense.
During emergencies like this, the Canadian Red Cross relies on the flexible funding provided by our donors to the International Disaster Relief Fund to help ensure people and communities affected by crises get the aid they need.
