Throughout 2020, the New South Wales (NSW) Youth Advisory Committee has engaged and involved our youth community on various topics. In doing so, they have undertaken projects that further the work of the Australian Red Cross and facilitate youth engagement on humanitarian issues. The globe, Australia, and the state of NSW have faced a diverse range of events this year. In NSW, the most notable have been the summer bushfires and COVID-19.
Our volunteers have contributed with some of the below initiatives to assist NSW during these times:
1. COVID-19 letter writing project to communicate with seniors in aged care facilities
2. Building and developing our social media platforms to better engage youth and provide updates on relevant events or issues. For example, bushfire information and Australian Red Cross’ bushfire response, Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fundraising details, COVID-19 information and Australian Red Cross’ response
3. Supporting and assisting multiple Australian University Red Cross clubs
4. Creating a youth engagement toolkit which will be accessible for all Australian Red Cross groups to learn more about youth involvement
