Project Description

The National President of the Mexican Red Cross, Fernando Suinaga Cárdenas; the State Delegate of the Red Cross, Eduardo Baca González; Carmen Lebrija de Suinaga, National President of Women Volunteers and Lourdes Fernández de Baca, State Coordinator of Women Volunteers led the delivery of humanitarian aid from the Winter Plan 2019, in favor of a thousand families from 4 mountain communities of the Municipality of Bocoyna, Chihuahua, benefiting 5 thousand people.

On this occasion, it was attended by the Governor of the State of Chihuahua, Javier Corral Jurado and the President of the State DIF, Cinthia Aideé Chavira Gamboa. With this installment we turned 20 years of uninterrupted aid to our brothers Tarahumaras, thanks to the donations generously donated by society and companies to this institution to support vulnerable groups affected by the low temperatures in the Sierra Tarahumara.

The beneficiary communities were: Tallarachi, Huiyochi, San Luis de Majimachi, Wajurana. The delivery point was Río Oteros Municipality of Bocoyna, where they delivered around a thousand pantries, a thousand blankets, 500 kitchen kits, as well as diverse clothes and toys. It is worth mentioning that these pantries are enough for a family of up to five members to be able to eat properly for a week. In this operation 20 young volunteers of the Youth Area worked to support these deliveries.

These pantries were transferred through Ferromex, which selflessly supports the Mexican Red Cross in this noble cause; the transfer was made from Mexico City to the Community of Creel, where it was downloaded by the volunteers to upload them to the trailer and take them to the delivery point. The inhabitants of the Sierra Tarahumara walk long distances from their communities to receive humanitarian aid. Some more move by their own means, with pack animals, among others.

The Mexican Red Cross is the world’s largest Humanitarian Network and reaffirms its commitment to continue helping vulnerable groups in emergency situations or in disasters, to continue fulfilling its mission to help and alleviate the suffering of people.
