Project Description

The Colombian Red Cross activated its Sectional of Chocó and Cundinamarca, for the attention of the emergency presented last weekend in the Department of Chocó. Volunteers from the humanitarian institution carry out activities of Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN) of the families affected by the overflow of the San Juan River and the flooding in the Itsmina, Condoto, Tado and Andagoya populations, the lines of action and intervention activated are working on first aid, psychosocial support and staff support for the distribution of aid kits provided by the UNGRD. The installation of two telecommunications antennas will be carried out in our support groups of Itsmina y todó. To strengthen the departmental telecommunications network.
 
The preliminary EDAN will allow a more detailed analysis of the damages and the needs of the community, characterizing the effects in order to prioritize aid in the most affected population.
 
The Colombian Red Cross is present in the communities affected by the sudden increases of the San Juan, Iro, Condoto, Certegui and Quito rivers, which affected the communities of Itsmina, Condoto, Tado and Andagoya. To date, 3,272 families have been reported, approximately 15,250 people. The UNGRD displaced 4,000 emergency humanitarian kits to the area. It continues on alert, before possible floods of the rivers, especially this weekend.
 
The Colombian Red Cross Sectional Cundinamarca and Bogota, within its regular program of cooperation to the Sectional of Chocó, supports this emergency with their own resources with a 4×4 vehicle, a road technician and 4 volunteers, who will provide technical assistance to this branch, initially through 8 days, in tasks of Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (EDAN), as well as the donation of two portable radios to reinforce telecommunications.
